STAGE 1 — GUIDED LEARNING
The learner enters a lifelike 3D workshop through a VR headset. A virtual trainer guides them step by step, explaining:
- Correct tool selection and usage
- Safe working methods throughout the procedure
- Technical best practices
- Why each step is done in that order
Example: In our high-voltage isolation module, the learner identifies the vehicle’s HV system, follows the correct isolation procedure, checks for stored energy, conducts insolation resistence tests, conducts equipotential bonding checks and accesses technical data — all inside the VR environment, at their own pace, with guidance available throughout.
STAGE 2 — INDEPENDENT ASSESSMENT
The same virtual workshop becomes an assessment space. There is a virtual coach and the student has learning prompts both in place to enhance the immersive learning experience. Once the learner reaches the end of the training programme they can either receive a OVA certicate or The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Professional Achievement Certificate (PAC) in High Voltage Isolation.

Our current VR automotive training modules include:
- Prius PHV High-Voltage Isolation (XW50) — full isolation procedure on a Toyota Prius plug-in hybrid, covering pre-work safety checks, isolation steps, and post-isolation verification

New modules are developed on an ongoing basis. We also offer a consortium development model, which allows multiple colleges or organisations to share the cost of creating new VR modules tailored to their specific curriculum needs.

What VR headsets do you use for automotive training?
Contact us directly and we will walk you through the hardware options. We recommend setups that work practically in a college environment — easy to manage, durable, and suitable for shared use across multiple learner groups. Our VR training currently works on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3s and Meta Quest 3.
Can VR automotive training count towards apprenticeship off-the-job training hours?
Yes, with the right documentation it can. Our VR modules are structured learning activities with clear outcomes and built-in assessment — all of which can support off-the-job training records.
Do we need a technical team to run the VR sessions?
No. The system is designed to be managed by a tutor, not a technician. We provide full onboarding and support.
How does OVA VR training fit into our existing curriculum?
It works alongside your existing delivery, not instead of it. Most colleges use our modules at a specific point in the programme — typically before learners move to live vehicle work — to ensure they arrive with the correct knowledge and safe working habits already established. No. Consumer car mechanic simulator VR games are built for entertainment. OVA modules are built for professional technical training, with accuracy at every step, safety-critical decision points, and a structured assessment framework.
